Yellow 1 & 2 - This photo has special meaning because the beaches shown (code named Yellow 1 and Yellow 2 during WWII US invasion of Okinawa, April 1-June 22, 1945), were where my uncle, a USMC infantryman landed with his brothers in arms. It is also the site where we lived for four years (bottom left white rectangular building). This shot was taken with first-generation drone (meaning you could fly it but you could not see what the camera was seeing until you landed).
Davison's Bounty - Friends brought us this gift from their garden.
Yomiton, Okinawa
Special Ops - Living next door to a special operations base, seeing the Osprey’s fly was a regular occurrence. The Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey is an American multi-mission, tiltrotor military aircraft with both vertical takeoff and landing, and short takeoff and landing capabilities. It is designed to combine the functionality of a conventional helicopter with the long-range, high-speed cruise performance of a turboprop aircraft.

Itsy Bitsy Spider - Sitting in brush working on a wildlife shot, I noticed this fellow resting on his web beside me. I wanted to get a shot of him because of his distinguished markings and size without blowing my cover, so with as little movement as possible, I slid a 1000Yen behind him for scale. The spider did not flinch and maintained his position, unperturbed by my visit.
The Lanterns - Jiufen is a mountain town in northeastern Taiwan, east of Taipei. It's known for the narrow alleyways of its old town, packed with teahouses, street-food shacks and souvenir shops. Near central Old Street is the Shengping Theater, established in the 1900s and since restored. Close by, the Gold Mine Museum traces the town's history as a mining hub during the Japanese-era gold rush.

Say Hello To My Little Friend - The gold dust day gecko is a diurnal species of gecko. It lives in northern Madagascar, and on the island of Comoros; it has also been introduced to Hawaii and other Pacific islands. It's typically seen in houses and various trees. The gold dust day gecko feeds on insects and nectar. Considered a sign of "good luck." This one was hanging out on the wall in our shower. After striking this pose for me, I escorted him back to the “wild” or our garden.
The Discussion. Rainy day photo fun.
Sunday Morning - Mokolii, also known among locals as Chinaman’s Hat (view panorama) because of its shape, is a popular spot for taking pictures on Oahu’s windward coast. The small island is located at the north end of Kaneohe Bay, offshore of Kualoa Regional Beach Park. Mokolii means “little lizard” in Hawaiian. It’s also called Chinaman’s Hat, presumably resembling a hat worn in rural China.
